The Feminist Studies Department at UC Santa Barbara stands out nationally and internationally for its exceptional strength and innovation in Transnational Feminist and Migration Studies. Our core faculty members are recognized leaders whose rigorous and groundbreaking scholarship consistently pushes intellectual boundaries of how we conceptualize gender relations across space and time.
Our award winning faculty is actively engaged in reshaping contemporary debates about global migration, labor-markets, refugee and asylum issues. Our world is seeing heightened number of displaced persons owing to impacts of gendered violence, war, genocides, and climate change. Simultaneously, we are witnessing a re-nationalization of borders globally. Our faculty is engaged in research about trans-Oceanic as well as trans-border understanding of the entanglements between gender relations, gender identity labor markets, and nationalisms.
