Our faculty study the way that gender, race, and sexuality shape the production of media and are represented in art and culture. Faculty and graduate student research projects in this area span a broad range of subjects, from the gendered dynamics of film and television production to queer and trans performance art, from feminist speculative fiction to zine making.

Some of our faculty are both scholars and cultural producers. As appropriate, our students are encouraged to engage in innovative, multi-media projects that blend visual media with scholarly work.
